UK gas futures have also been slow to trade this morning but the front month has gone through at 36.87p and Winter 2019 at 57.80p, both marginally up on

last night's closing levels. On the oil market, traders are still weighing a number of conflicting directional signals and Brent has shed 33 cents overnight to trade at $71.29 a barrel.

Market Update

  • Wednesday 21 August 2019:Crude oil prices trended upwards again yesterday with Brent crude trading around $60.00 a barrel and settling just above that trigger price

  • Wednesday 21 August 2019:The U.S. benchmark, West Texas, also gained marginally to settle at $56.34 to leave the differential between the 2 major benchmarks at its lowest since July 2018

  • Wednesday 21 August 2019:An early surplus was eroded over the course of the day, leaving the UK gas system 4MCM short at close of business as demand remained above 150MCM

  • Wednesday 21 August 2019:Prompt gas prices, which opened higher, recorded strong gains with the spot price up by 1.55p and day ahead up by 0.90p
